The story behind the mission

A life spent
serving the soil.

My father, Shri G. Sivannarayana, dedicated 35 years of his life to India's farmers as Project Director at ATMA — Agricultural Technology Management Agency. With an MSc in Agriculture, he spent his career not in offices, but in fields — helping smallholder farmers across Andhra Pradesh grow better, live better, and hope better.

As he prepares to retire in July 2026, I asked him what his one wish was. His answer was simple: "Plant one lakh trees before I'm gone."

That wish became this mission. We didn't want to plant 1 lakh trees. We decided to plant one million — and build an organization that outlives all of us.

Million Roots Foundation works at the intersection of forests, farms, and communities.

Afforestation

Planting one million native trees across Andhra Pradesh, with a focus on degraded land, village commons, and school campuses. Every tree tracked. Every tree counted.

Organic Farming

Training and supporting farmers to transition to chemical-free organic agriculture. Our demonstration farm in Nellore will serve as a living classroom for the community.

Community Roots

Building a network of farmers, volunteers, students, and corporates who believe that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago — and the second best time is now.
